Just having a knack to write things down is not enough if you want to become a writer. A command of the language you are writing in and for is a basic requirement of course although I will be the first to admit that my own grasp of the English sentence structure is not great. Without my wife and daughter to edit my writing I would be lost with my lousy use of commas and semi-colons!. Although the spell checker in Word 2010 seems to have a mind of its own, it too is a benefit that I could not do without.

Then one needs to determine what audience you want to reach such as fiction or non-fiction. Next you need to determine a genre and age group which you desire to reach with your writing. As John Locke states in his excellent book: “How I Sold 1 Million eBooks in 5 Months!” The best way to write a best-selling book is to know who your audience is (and what they want) before you start writing.

So this is what I have done, hopefully you will enjoy the books as much as I enjoyed writing them. Although these books (the majority of them) are labeled as “Christian” I would have to be honest and say there are several that would be labeled as PG-17. Why? Because the real world around us isn’t like Little House On The Prairie, there are situations dealing with drugs, alcohol, violence, crime, and even slightly sexual sitautions in my books that might be deemed inappropriate for readers under the age of 17. So you are probably thinking why I included content in a so-called Christian novel when Christian books are supposed to be spiritual and uplifting. The simplest answer I can give is that I write what God gives me to write and some of it is a bit edgy but then people who are unsaved are edgy as well. Evangelizing folks outside of a church building requires more than just reading a few verses out of the Bible to them. They want to see Christians living out the Lord’s commandment to love your neighbor.

I’m certainly no Frank Peretti but I do enjoy the way he uses demons to differentiate between good and evil. As a wise old preacher taught me, “you can’t get people saved until you get them lost”. So the storylines in my novels use worldly situations to show where people start out and then… Well, you need to read the books to find out what happens next.
